ARTIST’S STATEMENT

My journey to find my voice started in the second-year figure drawing course: realizing that I could seek alternatives to hyper-realism in presenting the human figure freed me creatively to develop a style of work that is both figurative and symbolic.

Over the next fifteen years, my unique abstract anthropomorphic and alien-like figures have slowly emerged. They are from a planet located deep within my subconscious mind and they come together through shapes and movement to make up their own special community. Themes such as nurturing, healing, and aspects of femininity are subtly handled in my work. In their intricate detail, my work is intended to be revisited often, with something new always waiting to be found.

I value togetherness and community – something that is especially needed today. My drawings showcase the in-between moments found within life until death, moments we might otherwise take for granted. I offer snapshots of an eternal present, the moment being experienced by the viewer, who may find their own story of triumph, perseverance, and hope therein.
