My name is Sasha Q (real name Oleksandra Stepanenko) and I'm an artist born in Kyiv, Ukraine. Graduate of Mykhailo Boichuk Kyiv State Academy of decorative-applied Arts and Design.
I was forced to flee my home, where I left my studio and body of work, due to the russian invasion in February of 2022, and currently live and work in Toronto, Canada.
ARTIST’S STATEMENT
My art is an extension of my consciousness, an endless source of exploration of its mysterious nature, and a place of travel. The ability to embody the product of one's consciousness in the form of art is the highest form of existence. I always believed that meaningful art conveys images that only one's soul can decipher. If its core is unfakable then it has infinite power to change reality.
As a person, born at the intersection of epochs, I’m witnessing 2 historical rifts of eras simultaneously - one in my own country where society reconsiders itself from the basics, and the intersection of the analog era and times of deepening digitalization worldwide. Empirically, I’m reflecting on the metamorphoses in the world and my works are imbued with a light nostalgic vibe.

According to the theory of panspermia, one of the theories of the origin of life - it was brought to Earth by meteors containing salt crystals with tiny droplets of water inside. Long millions of years of meteorite showers gave the earth reservoirs of water in which an incredible metamorphosis took place from inorganic life to organic, perhaps the only conscious life in the entire universe.
And now there is a place in the universe where a reverse metamorphosis from organic to inorganic life occurs in colossal quantities. It is absorbed by the soil of Soledar city, the capital of the salt mines - NaCl - a mineral of the origin of life, sacred in humankind culture. This frontline city is a portal to other dimensions where hundreds of thousands of souls are reincarnated, closing the cycle of life.
