Sheri Peters

Sheri seeks to capture the essence of life by painting the rhythms found in nature. Abstract ideas move across the canvas as she explores the balance between stillness and motion. Her paintings reflect nature’s emotion, movement, peace, and change.
Working in acrylic with collage, pastel, and glazes, she creates mixed-media pieces rich in texture and atmosphere, inviting viewers to pause and reflect on the balance between nature and transformation.
Sheri has appeared as a guest artist on An Artist in The House, a national television broadcast, and received the Sunshine Coast Writers Society People’s Choice Award for Best Painting at the 2024 Art and Words Festival. Her work has been featured in the anthology Not an Island and on the cover of Snippets in a Small Town, a book celebrating life on the BC coast.
ARTIST’S STATEMENT
In my studio you will find many paintings on the go at the same time. Some take many months before they reach the final stages into the refining process because I believe in waiting for the painting to unfold.
All of my paintings start with a chaotic stage as the music, poetry and random thoughts begin to translate into color and movement on the canvas. At some point, I stop and stare into it, like looking up at the clouds and making pictures. Through this process I find a beginning, and images come into my conscious mind. I do not use reference photos. There is a spiritual connection to something greater than myself, and as I paint I may hold a word, permeated by my emotional state which shows up in my choices as I proceed.
I favor using a limited pallet, working in acrylic translucent glazes, building up subtle shifts in value, working with cool colors, textures, warm colors, darker values and then balance it out with neutrals. I work through ideas in series, and the closer I get the essence the more satisfied I am at the endings.
