Shirley Day

I’m an award winning creative photographer whose work has been featured in CA101, the Orange County Fair, the San Diego Fair’s international juried exhibitions, Covet Art Gallery, the Newport Beach Art Show, Love & Aesthetics, Monochromatic Journal, Photo Art Pavilion, Destination: Art, and other spaces that celebrate visual storytelling. The recognition is meaningful, but what stays in my heart is hearing that an image of mine has offered someone a moment of calm, delight, or a feeling they can’t quite name.
My process is spontaneous and alive. Whatever stops me in my tracks and makes my heart giddy. I love tapping into the beauty all around me and creating dreamy or unexpected images of landscapes, cityscapes, profiles of people, and random objects.
With every photograph, I honor those who have inspired and supported me - mentors, artists across time, emerging talent, and family and friends, including those no longer here.
ARTIST’S STATEMENT
Sometimes I just want to take a moment of beauty and tuck it into my pocket. Knowing that it’s there turns it into a dream that I can always revisit. That’s the spirit behind my photography. I see the world as a creative - always have. It's my constant Zen.
I make images where I feel a connection, as if my emotions are tethered to a scene, a structure, a culture, textures, or light. Each photograph is its own dreamscape, my way of telling a story.
Through my lens, I invite the viewer to step into a portal, a place to pause. To feel. To smile. To embrace the bittersweet. To notice the tiny details that usually slip by. And, hopefully, to sense the honesty and perhaps the playfulness in the capture.
I’m deeply grateful to share this journey with you.
