Silvija Saplys
I have always been inspired by the many components which have shaped my world- my family with its strong women, how the landscape of nature relates to urban life and how the sustainability of both affects us all.
I work occasionally in sculpture and installation, but my passion is painting- exploring mediums and finding different ways that paint can express distinct and divergent outcomes on surfaces.
Born in Toronto, I reside and work in Mississauga. I have studied at the Ontario College of Art, the University of Toronto, and have a Fine Arts Diploma from Toronto School of Art.
My work had been exhibited in Canada and New York State.
ARTIST’S STATEMENT
Abstracted forms show movement in a monochromatic palette which is intentional, to keep viewing simple and clean, and to allow the eye to wander across the canvas. Optical illusion intrigues, and the meeting of abstract forms with hints of realism are reflective of both urban and rural elements, as they exist independently, as well as intertwined with each other.
