Stella Lillig
I combine vibrant colors, geometric patterns, and multimedia collage in my acrylic and oil compositions. My signature concrete frames give my work a distinctive contemporary quality with hints of timelessness. My paintings reflect a perfect contrast between earthy elements and raw, industrial-looking abstractions.
Beyond my studio practice, I've built an extensive career in digital content creation, expertly wielding Adobe Creative Suite to document, edit, and promote my artistic vision. My technical proficiency extends to video production, projection art, and immersive installations that have been featured throughout New York City.
Since 2000, I have exhibited widely, including solo shows at Midoma Gallery, New York Public Library, and numerous Chelsea venues, alongside group exhibitions at Chelsea Art Museum and Ward-Nasse Gallery. My work has maintained a continuous presence at The Highline Open Studios since 2010.
Alongside my artistic practice, I work as an Art Coach, sharing my passion for visual storytelling with students of all ages. My teaching philosophy incorporates both traditional techniques and digital applications, reflecting my own multifaceted approach to creative expression.
ARTIST’S STATEMENT
In my latest series of works, I invite viewers into a captivating symphony of color, geometry, and emotion. Each canvas tells a unique story through abstract forms, anchored by bold geometric patterns that evoke interconnected pathways and tunnels. This collection showcases a subtle yet distinct graphic and Pop Art sensibility, reflecting my ongoing exploration of form and emotional expression.
My artistic journey began in childhood, deeply influenced by the vibrant aesthetics of 1970s design, architectural styles from around the world, and provocative magazine imagery. These early visual fascinations remain at the core of my practice today, transformed through decades of my experience in photography, video editing, and digital manipulation.
My compositions serve as a canvas for my global experiences and cultural encounters. I weave together elements of industrial landscapes, fragments of popular culture, and glimpses into metaphysical realms using an innovative fusion of traditional and digital techniques. Every piece combines cement, acrylic, oil paint, imagery, text elements, and occasionally binary code—creating a harmonious blend that pulses with raw emotion within a stylized presentation.
