Sue Ennis

Sue Ennis,OSA is an artist whose works have been featured in many juried solo and group shows throughout Ontario and the USA. She is a member of the Ontario Society of Artists, North Toronto Group of Artists, and Bayview Art Tour. She has experimented with a variety of media, including oils, acrylics, and plexiglass.
She took her first art class when she was in her mid forties, and enjoyed it so much that she quit her successful 15 year career in financial services to study art full time.
She has been mentoring artists for several years in her studio.
ARTIST’S STATEMENT
Colour is always the first decision I make when I start a painting, and my style is abstraction, loosely based on nature. I do not paint from photos or en plein air, but from my memories of places visited or the feeling evoked by them. I start with a palette of 3-4 colours and then start applying them to the canvas and observe carefully what comes up for me as I paint, watching for shapes to emerge, ideas to percolate, and intuition to guide my hand. After some time, I find myself immersed in a state of flow, where I have become unaware of what is going on around me, and all distractions and sense of time floats away.
