Surya Patil

Creativity has always been at the heart of who I am. Though I studied design and later pursued a degree in Economics, at my mother’s encouragement to build a practical career, my true calling has always been painting.
For me, it’s never been about just putting colors on canvas. Each piece I create is a little confession—an emotion I couldn’t quite say out loud, or an idea that felt too strange until I painted it. And the magical part? Sometimes people look at my work and say, “Wow, that’s exactly how I feel.” Which is the best compliment… because it means I’ve unintentionally become a translator for emotions people couldn’t Google.
My travels across America, Canada, and India have shaped my vision and affirmed that my work offers something distinct: paintings that make people pause and think.
For me, art is about connection. Just as the most powerful books or films move us because they reflect our own lives, I hope my paintings resonate in that same intimate way. When a collector brings one of my works into their home or space, it becomes more than décor—it becomes a reflection of their feelings, their identity, and their connection to the world around them.
This is what I believe gives my art its true value: it bridges the gap between personal experience and universal emotion. I invite you to explore these canvases, and I hope you discover the piece that speaks directly to you.
ARTIST’S STATEMENT
Art That Tells a Story, One Canvas at a Time
Born from a journey of independent practice, my art is a form of storytelling through acrylics—where every brushstroke reveals a narrative layered with texture, color, and emotion.
Each painting I create is a chapter in my visual diary, shaped by personal experiences and inner reflections. My work is deeply personal, born from a desire to give form to feelings and ideas that often go unspoken. What begins as private exploration becomes a shared dialogue when someone connects with a piece and says, “That’s exactly how I feel.” Those moments are the most meaningful part of my artistic journey—when emotion transforms into a visual language that resonates beyond words.
I am grateful to have received several honors that continue to inspire my creative path, including the Creative Excellence Award in the Artist of the Year contest, an Honorable Mention in the 11th International Artist of the Month competition by the Circle Foundation for the Arts, and being named Runner-up in the 2024 Artist of the Year contest by Artavita and World Wide Art. My work has also been recognized as a Finalist and Honorable Mention in Teravarna’s Artist Competition and as a Finalist in the Art Collide Open Theme Art Competition. Additionally, my paintings have been featured in Spotlight Contemporary Art Magazine, Volume 40, published by the Circle Foundation for the Arts.
As a member of the Capitol Hill Art League, my paintings are exhibited at Frame of Mine in Washington, DC, Artworks RVA in Richmond, TAG – The Art Gallery in Frederick, VA, The Parc Gallery (Mosaic Arts) in Leesburg Pike, VA, and the Center for Plastic Surgery in Chevy Chase, MD. I’m also a proud member of the Northern Virginia Handcrafters Guild, which provides opportunities to showcase my work in their gallery space. In November 2025, I’ll be exhibiting my paintings at the SuperFine Art Fair in Washington, DC.
Step into my world—where each painting is a story, a confession, and an invitation to feel, reflect, and connect.
