Sylvester Aigbogun

Born in the vibrant city of Lagos, Nigeria, Sylvester Aigbogun is a contemporary artist known for his colourful, stylized and thought-provoking paintings. His artistic journey began at Yaba College of Technology, Lagos, where he received a Higher National Diploma in Painting in 1998.

Over the years, Sylvester has participated in numerous group exhibitions in Nigeria and a group exhibition in Vancouver BC, Canada.

In 2026, he participated in Art Vancouver Contemporary Art Fair.

ARTIST’S STATEMENT

My practice explores culture, connection, memory, and the universal emotional language of colour. Through textured figurative and abstract compositions, I create paintings that celebrate the relationships, traditions, and shared experiences that shape our understanding of ourselves and each other.

Drawing inspiration from the women who have influenced my life and from the Nigerian ‘Aso Ebi’ tradition, I use colour saturation, texture, and form to tell stories of patience, resilience, belonging, and joy. My work seeks to create spaces for reflection while celebrating the beauty and strength found in community, cultural continuity, and human connection.
