Szende Tunderligeti

Szende is a mixed media artist, combining her love of nature and natural wood materials to create her painted and hand built wood slice mobiles and sculptures.
Szende’s work is primarily inspired by nature, which is also evident in her landscape paintings, which is her earliest artistic expression. Her choice of colours, shapes and compositions broken down and synthesized, results in complex abstract forms painted on individual wood slices, built into sculptures.
Szende uses a variety of techniques in her work, various painting methods, geometric shapes, her take on pointillism and dotting techniques, pulled together in a boho chic aesthetic, although the pieces work well in any environment. Her work is multidimensional and aims to explore deeper personal meaning, expressed through texture, tone and dimension, using the grain and various elements of the wood to inspire the design of each piece.
Szende’s rescued wood sculptures are that of dreamlike figures; often inspired by the female form. A sense of lightness, flying, all the while still remaining grounded are concepts that Szende explores in her work. Working with rescued wood calls her to her cultural roots in Transylvania, where her sense of resourcefulness and imagination was born and helped shaped the artist. Being surrounded by the vast and forest rich landscapes in her formative years, Szende feels deeply connected with nature. Living in Canada most of her life, the great Canadian outdoors continues to offer and fuel her inspiration. Being surrounded by the natural elements used in her work; utilizing what nature has to offer, advocating for inclusion and acceptance, and opening the dialogue about mental health awareness are some of the things that fuel Szende’s passion for creation. Szende aims to convey that sense of connection and belonging she feels through her artistry, and welcomes the viewer to explore the work on their terms.
