Valeriya Grinshpan

I was born and grew up in Kyiv – the capital of Ukraine. I received MSc and PHD in Operations Research (Mathematical modeling and algorithms).
Since 1997 I live in Canada. I was always interested in art, especially painting. I love traveling around Europe, and always inspired and influenced by paintings of Renoir, Monet, Vincent van Gogh and Salvador Dali. The Group of Seven captured my heart when I looked at the paintings of Canadian landscape.
Since year 2002 I started painting with oil and Acrylic and went through different painting styles depending on a period in my life and its challenges.
While I’ve been working for the major Canadian banks in the field of IT for Capital Market and Wealth management for last 20 years, painting became a big part of my life. First it was just a hobby. But later became who I am. Some of my paintings have been sold in Canada, Germany and Portugal.
This year I participated in the painting show “Fabric of our being: abstract or reality?” at the Neighborhood Gallery on Danforth Ave., Toronto.

ARTIST’S STATEMENT

The more we live, the more questions about our reality we have.
Is what we can sense and feel real? Is reality much more than that or none of it?
Why are we here and where we are going? What is the goal and meaning?
People try to give different answers to these questions. Who knows whether any of them can come somewhat close to the TRUTH?
I believe if we can feel love, kindness, empathy, and curiosity, we are on the right path. I also believe that art can trigger these feelings in us.
