Vanessa Michiels
Vanessa Michiels is a Toronto based oil painter and graduate of OCAD Design program. She has been apart of the Toronto art community for many years, in most recent months she has showcased her art at Crybaby Gallery for her duo show Interlude, as well as participating in group shows at Superwonder Gallery and the Kensington Market Art fair. Vanessa is an avid lover of vintage movies and sci-fi, influences which are clear throughout her work.
ARTIST’S STATEMENT
Inspired by pop surrealism and trashy fashion magazines of her childhood, Vanessa's work revolves around campy muses and with a bright vintage feel. With her work Vanessa explores themes of the pressure on women in the media, contrasting with imagery of a simpler time past, showing that femininity can mean so many things to the viewer.
