ARTIST’S STATEMENT

"My art work is generally categorized as surrealistic, but when I instruct, I teach everything from acrylic to encaustic methods, portraiture, figurative work, landscapes, abstraction, and so on. My side gig of teaching sometimes spills over into my painting practice, segueing into my own artwork, producing an unexpected variety in genres flying off my easel. Opposite of being a lack of focus, I see this mix of genres as the research, study, and planning that leads to my surrealistic paintings."

During Covid, art galleries, art festivals, and my art studio were closed to the public. I took advantage of this time, using my skills to create clean, fresh artworks depicting beautiful, colourful, lush fruit and vegetables, figure studies, bird and animal drawings and paintings. I took these creative moments online and shared with people all across Canada 3 times a week, via Zoom workshops. We shared laughter and stories during the classes, while making art, bringing community and communication back into our lives during the pandemic. These pieces are the results. I hope you enjoy their simple, yet unique beauty.
