Ziqi Yu

I am Ziqi Yu, born in Guangzhou and raised in the U.S., where two contrasting cultures shaped my creative journey. I graduated from the ArtCenter College of Design in Pasadena, California, with dual degrees in Graphic Design and Environmental Design. Over the past 25 years, I have worked across the creative industries in both the U.S. and China, serving as Creative Director at Sapient, Magnet, and MarchFIRST, where I developed brand strategies and visual identities for multinational corporations.
Yet, design was only the beginning of my journey. Over time, I transformed this professional foundation into a deeper artistic practice—one that fuses Eastern aesthetics with modern abstraction. My work is inspired by the wabi-sabi philosophy of Sen no Rikyū and the concept of emptiness (liubai) as a spiritual threshold, where absence becomes presence.
I am an artist who explores spirituality through light and silence. My works are intersections of time, cosmos, and inner stillness—an attempt to capture the eternal resonance that emerges between deconstruction and reassembly, form and formlessness.

ARTIST’S STATEMENT

As a digital artist, I believe that art is not merely a visual presentation, but a profound exploration of emotion and spirit. Through digital art, I transcend traditional boundaries, seeking free and boundless modes of expression that reveal the deep dialogue between light and time, the universe and life. I firmly believe that "to create is to influence change," and my works do not merely solve problems; they engage in a dialogue with the world and my inner self.
My artistic language blends the figurative with the abstract, breaking free from rational frameworks to open up broader spiritual spaces. Digital art offers me endless possibilities for expression, where light and shadow, time and space, memory and existence intertwine. The aesthetic of negative space invites deep reflection on the intangible world. I incorporate the "negative space" aesthetics of Eastern art into my digital creations, transcending the boundaries between East and West, tradition and modernity, to create an art that spans time and space.
Digital art enables me to freely explore the mysteries of life, time, and the universe. Each piece is a question posed to the unknown, presenting emotions and philosophies that are difficult to articulate. Through art, I hope to evoke emotional resonance in viewers, helping them find peace and insight amidst the clamor of reality. My goal is to use digital art to convey emotion and thought, building a bridge between the soul and the universe.
