Anne Bullen

Anne is a self-taught abstract artist happily creating from her home in Gananoque, Ontario. Drawn to bold colour, big feelings, and the unexpected magic of paint, she creates expressive acrylic and mixed media works that invite imagination to run a little wild.
Art has always been part of Anne’s world. Her mother, also a self-taught artist, quietly shared her creativity by painting canvases for her six children and grandchildren. Along with this early influence, Anne’s curiosity has led her to explore a variety of artistic mediums, including liquid paint pouring, pottery, ceramics, glassblowing, and watercolour.
Nature is another important source of inspiration. Anne loves cycling, hiking and kayaking, combining exercise with the simple pleasure of being outdoors. The bold colours, changing patterns, and unexpected beauty of nature continually inspire her work. With more time to notice the world around her, she finds herself seeing colours more vividly and experiencing music more deeply.
Inspired by happy accidents, flowing curves, circles, and the occasional whimsical animal, Anne’s paintings each develop a personality of their own. Fall 2026 marks an exciting milestone in her artistic journey, with her work on display at The Big Art Gallery at the Falls in Smiths Falls, Ontario, her first gallery exhibition.
ARTIST’S STATEMENT
I create abstract art inspired by bold colours, nature, happy accidents, and the joy of seeing what happens when imagination takes the lead. My work is playful and a little quirky, with flowing curves, circles, and unexpected touches.
For me, the magic of abstract art is that everyone sees something different. Just as we each experience the world in our own way, we bring our own stories and feelings to a painting. There is no right or wrong, just room to explore, imagine, and discover.
