Ara Stone is a Toronto-based visual artist and creator of North Star Art, whose work brings the vibrant spirits of wildlife and the natural world to life. Drawing from experiences across Canada, Stone translates animals and their environments into bold, immersive compositions using striking black linework and a luminous, expressive palette. Her signature “stained glass” style balances geometric structure with organic spontaneity, creating a vivid dialogue between creature, colour, and a deeply personal connection to the wild.

ARTIST’S STATEMENT

My work explores the relationship between people, wildlife, and the natural world through colour, pattern, and bold graphic form.

Inspired by the forests, lakes, coastlines, and wildlife I have encountered across Canada, I create vivid compositions that celebrate the character and spirit of the animals that inhabit these places. Each creature becomes both a subject and a presence within its environment, inviting the viewer to pause, connect, and see the natural world with a sense of curiosity and wonder.

My signature stained-glass-inspired style combines strong black linework with luminous fields of colour. Geometric shapes provide structure, while organic forms and unexpected colour relationships introduce movement and spontaneity. This balance reflects the natural world itself: ordered and interconnected, yet constantly changing.

Through North Star Art, I create work that is playful, contemporary, and deeply rooted in a love of nature. My hope is that each piece evokes a feeling of connection—to a place, a creature, or perhaps a memory of being surrounded by something wild.
