Artist Bio - Behshid Farhangian
Behshid Farhangian is an Iranian-Canadian artist based in Vancouver, Canada, whose work
explores the vibrant intersection of color, texture, and emotion. Originally from Tehran, Iran,
Behshid immigrated to Canada in 2018 and quickly became involved in the local and
international art scene. She is an active member of the Society of Iranian Painters, Iran
Contemporary Art, and the Institute for Promotion of Contemporary Visual Art of Iran.
With a strong foundation in industrial engineering and historical restoration, Behshid's artistic
journey began as a way to express her passion for storytelling through visual mediums. Her
works, which have been displayed in exhibitions across Canada, Iran, the US, Italy, and South
Korea, reflect her deep connection to nature and her dynamic approach to painting. From solo
shows in Tehran to group exhibitions at notable venues such as the Vancouver Outsider Arts
Festival and the CICA Museum, Behshid’s art continues to resonate with a diverse audience.
As a dedicated educator, Behshid has been teaching drawing and painting since 2013, nurturing
creativity in students of all ages. She also taught interior design at Tehran Conservatory
University and founded the "Vis Annual Competition," a platform to support emerging artists in
Tehran.
Through her artwork, Behshid aims to evoke a sense of immersion, inviting viewers to
experience the world in all its natural beauty and complexity. Her work is a testament to her
commitment to creativity and her ongoing exploration of how art can connect people across
cultures and experiences.

Artist Statement for Gesture Collection
This collection of works explores the human form through a surreal and abstract lens, where the
boundaries between reality and fantasy merge. Each piece portrays a dreamlike and enigmatic
atmosphere, where humanoid figures with elongated, ghostly, and sometimes muscular forms
are represented in an abstract and stylized manner.
The combination of complex textures and decorative elements transports these works into a
world that is both unreal and mental. This collection uses strong contrasts and changes in form
and texture to convey a sense of inner calm, fluidity, and complexity within the human
experience. The works not only aim to display human forms but also explore the relationships
between humans and their mental environments in an abstract and symbolic way.
Through this art, the collection invites the viewer into a surreal world, where emotions, thoughts,
and abstract spaces are harmoniously displayed, with each piece telling a story beyond simple
human forms.
