Bertil Joseph

Born in 1986, Bertil Joseph is a Canadian landscape artist working with oils and acrylics, inspired by time spent outdoors fishing, hiking, and camping in the backcountry. Rather than strict realism, his work focuses on emotion and atmosphere—capturing how a place feels in a fleeting moment through bold, expressive brushwork, layered texture, and deliberate colour. Drawing from repeated visits to familiar landscapes across changing seasons, his paintings reveal light, movement, and energy as they unfold in forests, waterways, and winter paths. His work reflects a personal connection to the land, inviting viewers to pause, reflect, and reconnect with the quiet presence of the natural world.
ARTIST’S STATEMENT
My work is an exploration of the vibrant, hidden energy within the natural landscape. I am fascinated by the moments when light ceases to be a passive element and becomes a structural force, carving out deep shadows and igniting the environment with unexpected color.
