ARTIST’S STATEMENT
Since childhood, I have searched for ways to express my view of the world through art. I love to depict the amazing natural treasures found within Atlantic Canada, but also in my travel especially in Europe, New Zealand, Northeast Together we share responsibility for taking care of our natural surroundings.
I am inspired by the masters of post-impressionism, and use a subjective approach to painting, choosing symbolic colors, bold gestural, strokes, and optical effects to illustrate a narrative and to evoke an emotional response from the viewer.
The knowledge I’ve gained through my varied education in the arts, theatre, teaching, and workshops have challenged me to explore and create visual art in a variety of media and genres. An award-winning artist, I have studied Visual Art, Drama, and Education at U of Saskatchewan, U of Calgary, and the Elam School of Art, U of Auckland, (A Conceptual Art School). I have taught in schools, civic programs and in my home studio since 1991.
I especially enjoy working with budding artists who have endless imagination and unrestrained expression. This includes students all ages with varying abilities and cultural backgrounds.
