Oil on canvas.
48x30x1.50"
This painting captures the tranquil beauty of a summer evening along the Rideau Canal in Ottawa, as boaters from both sides of the border dock and prepare to resume their journey the next day.
Cecilia Chan migrated to Toronto from Hong Kong at the age of twelve with her family. She has always had a passion for visual arts and holds a degree in Architectural Science from Ryerson University. However, it wasn't until she was encouraged by a counselor to take up a hobby to help her deal with depression that she began her art career. She started painting and was encouraged to sell her work. After receiving multiple requests for commissioned paintings, she realized that her hobby had become her career. In recent times, she has participated in several juried art shows, studio tours, and other exhibitions. As of 2023, she has restarted en plein-air and enjoys painting with other artists who share her interests. Additionally, she has been accepted into an art residency program at Château Bouthonvillier in France. Cecilia sees herself as an impressionist and plans to continue honing her skills in oil painting.
ARTIST’S STATEMENT

Cecilia chose oil paints to express her personal beliefs and experiences. Her paintings, like a diary, capture the journey of self-discovery and showcase her love for various subjects, including portraits, cityscapes, landscapes, buildings, and structures. Nature and landscapes are her favorite subjects, as they inspire and evoke timeless emotions. Cecilia aims to share her vision and inspire those who appreciate the beauty of nature and the world around them through her art.
