I obtained my Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in graphic design from University of Massachusetts and have a lifelong career in design and since 2010 have been the owner of my business, Creative Capture.

In 2014 I started painting when I took an oils course with Canadian artist, Cheryl Peddie in Calgary, Alberta, and have been painting ever since. I have been living in Nova Scotia for six years, and am a member of The Crossroad Artists in Tantallon, and a member of The Peggy's Cove Area Arts Society, showing my work at the Hubbard's Barn Opening Night, The Prow Gallery, and the annual Peggy's Cove Area Festival of the Arts Studio Tour.

ARTIST’S STATEMENT

I am from a large family of creatives, artists, artisans and makers. My paintings are rooted in a deep and enduring connection to the natural world, particularly the rugged beauty of the coast—its changing light, shifting skies, restless water, and quiet moments of stillness. My work is an exploration of atmosphere, emotion, and my inner life—drawn from the experiences and places that have captured my attention and stayed with me long after the moment has passed.

Moving between realism and abstraction, I allow each painting to find its own language. Some works begin with the recognizable forms of a landscape, while others move beyond what can be seen, into something more intuitive and expressive. I work in both oils and acrylics, choosing the medium according to the feeling and character of each piece.

There is a sense of both observation and freedom in my approach. I am drawn to the power of nature to evoke and express emotional or psychological states—symbolism and patterns found in the changing light, seasons, wilderness or in closeup microcosms of nature, such as the center of a flower. At other times, I work completely spontaneously, intuitively using whatever colours, textures, or gestures I feel drawn to in the moment—allowing the painting to become less about a specific place and more about the movement of energy, a feeling or an internal process.

For me, painting is ultimately a way of paying attention and expressing the inner and outer landscape, sometimes literally, other times abstractly. My hope is to capture something of my own and the viewers’ heart, mind and soul, with each painting offering not simply an image, but an invitation to pause, to feel, and perhaps to find something familiar within it.
