Celeste Kim

I am an expressive, intuitive artist working in acrylic and mixed media on canvas. My practice explores storytelling through layered textures, color, and material, giving form to my inner voice, emotions, and personal narratives. Drawing inspiration from the natural world, I strive to capture its beauty in a simple yet evocative way.
My paintings often emerge as extensions of my poetry—where the rhythm of words transforms into movement, color, and form. Through a whimsical and introspective atmosphere, I create intimate visual dialogues that invite viewers to connect with unspoken emotions and lived experiences.
Central to my work is the symbolism of flowers, explored through abstract expression. To me, each bloom represents a soul—fleeting, vibrant, and unique. My paintings reflect on the cycles of becoming, being, and letting go, capturing the quiet resilience, vulnerability, and grace found in both nature and human experience.
I studied Fine Art and Communication Design at OCAD University, where I developed a multidisciplinary approach and deepened my foundation in visual storytelling.
ARTIST’S STATEMENT
My work is an exploration of storytelling through acrylic and mixed media on canvas, where I use layers of texture, color, and material to give shape to my inner voice and emotional landscape. I am drawn to the quiet language of the natural world, seeking to distill its beauty into forms that feel both simple and deeply evocative.
Working intuitively, I approach each piece as a dialogue between control and surrender. My paintings often begin as fragments of poetry—thoughts, rhythms, or emotions that gradually transform into visual compositions. In this process, words dissolve into movement, and meaning emerges through gesture, layering, and color. Each work becomes a space where the seen and the felt intersect.
A recurring motif in my practice is the flower, which I explore through abstract expression as a symbol of the soul. To me, each bloom embodies a fleeting yet powerful existence—vibrant, delicate, and ever-changing. Through this symbolism, I reflect on the cycles of becoming, being, and letting go. My work is a meditation on impermanence, resilience, and the quiet grace found within transformation.
Ultimately, my paintings are invitations—to pause, to feel, and to connect. I hope to create spaces where viewers can encounter their own emotions and interpretations, engaging with the unspoken narratives that shape both personal and collective experience.
