Chris Gallagher

Chris Gallagher lives in Vancouver, Canada, worked mainly in film and was a professor of film at UBC for 24 years. Currently he makes work in photography, video media and with objects. From his earliest work to the present, he has examined the philosophical paradoxes and contradictions in our perception of the space-time continuum by applying structural strategies to everyday imagery. His work often reformulates real subject with hypothetical theorems colliding form and content to open new views latent within the ordinary. Known as a filmmaker for such works as Time Being, Where is Memory, Seeing in the Rain, Terminal City and Atmosphere
ARTIST’S STATEMENT
This work is form the Around Here series and is made with his radial pan camera which rotates one revolution during the one second exposure used to render each image. The non-narrative motion of a circle skews the image rendering towards abstraction reveling technical artifacts as glorious plays of light.
