Donna Shewfelt

Living in Nova Scotia offers endless inspiration through its beautiful lakes, ocean beaches, and winding trails. Nature influences the impressions I create through vibrant colour, rich texture, and expressive layers.
Born and raised in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, I have spent my life appreciating the beauty of this province. I married my high school sweetheart, raised three wonderful sons, and enjoyed a professional career as a lawyer with the Federal Government. For more than a decade, I have been exploring my creative passions through painting and pottery.
I truly believe art displayed in our homes brings a smile to our face and a memory to our hearts. My mother was a talented realist painter, and although she never formally taught me to paint, I believe her creativity found its way to me through osmosis. My own style is much freer and bolder, characterized by impressionism and joyful colours and texture. Mom was also an avid gardener — a talent I did not inherit — but perhaps she would appreciate the flowers that bloom vividly throughout my work.
Many of my pieces incorporate my hand-sculpted pottery, adding depth, dimension, and unexpected perspectives that reveal something new each time they are viewed.
Hidden within every piece, you’ll find a ladybug — a playful signature touch meant to share a little joy and good luck with those who experience my art.
