Durga is a self-taught mixed-media artist based in Markham, Ontario, Canada, and the sixth generation in a family art line. Her layered abstract works combine acrylic, molding paste, yarn, 24-karat gold, and coffee grinds to build textured surfaces that invite each viewer to find their own story within the composition.

Her practice explores the tension between a chaotic mind and the quiet strength within — themes of hope, resilience, and endless possibility run through her work. She has shown in a private exhibition, alongside Public Display Agency, and at the Richmond Hill Art Walk. Currently preparing her next solo exhibition, she continues to push further into the stories of inner strength and the possibilities that emerge from it.

ARTIST’S STATEMENT

My work is rooted in abstraction as a form of emotional truth and self-expression. Using acrylic and oil, I explore inner states that are difficult to articulate through language—memory, resilience, stillness, and transformation. Each painting is guided by intuition rather than premeditation, allowing the work to unfold organically through gesture, texture, and color.
I am a self-taught artist whose practice began as a personal refuge and has evolved into a disciplined, intentional pursuit. After an early period of focused work, I stepped away to navigate life’s demands, returning now with greater clarity and purpose. This return marks a deeper commitment to my practice, grounded in consistency, scale, and long-term vision.
My approach values honesty over perfection. I am less concerned with representation and more interested in creating space—for reflection, vulnerability, and quiet recognition. Viewers are invited to encounter the work without instruction, bringing their own experiences into dialogue with the canvas.
My long-term vision is influenced by my grandfather, who believed that talent deserves opportunity regardless of financial means. His values of generosity, integrity, and service continue to shape my goals as an artist, educator, and community member.
