ARTIST’S STATEMENT
After four decades of interpreting the world through the structured lenses of Expressionism and Cubism, my current work explores the threshold where architecture and landscape dissolve into pure sensory experience. This evolution represents a 'stripping away' of the literal to reveal the energetic vibration of a place.
My process is deeply tactile. Using a palette knife to build high-relief impasto surfaces, I treat the canvas as an architectural site, layering oil and acrylic to create a physical history on the surface. While my earlier cityscapes focused on the rhythmic geometry of rooftops and streets, these new abstract works distill those rhythms into a language of color-fields and gestural marks. Influenced by the heritage of Canadian abstraction and the light of my European travels, these pieces seek to capture the 'after-image'—the emotional resonance that remains in the mind after the physical sight has faded.
