Erika Farkas
Erika’s work reflects her personal journey—rooted in the rugged beauty of Transylvania, enriched by her life in Ottawa, Canada, and shaped by the leap she took at age 50 to pursue her dream.
As a self-taught artist, Erika began with the meticulous strokes of pencil realism, learning to observe and translate the world with precision and care. Over time, her practice has evolved into a dance of mediums—graphite, pastels, acrylics, mixed media, and oils—each chosen to express a specific mood or story. In the last few years, she chose oil as her creative medium. Her engineering background often finds its way into her art, inspiring elements of structure, precision, and symmetry that contrast with the organic flow of emotions she seeks to portray.
Erika exhibits her works throughout the year in selected community and commercial galleries in Ottawa, most notably at the Santini Gallery and Foyer Gallery. She is an active member of several art organizations in the Ottawa area and is the recipient of numerous awards received in local and international art exhibits. Her sold works and commissions have found their forever home throughout North America, Europe, and Asia.
ARTIST’S STATEMENT
In my works, I draw inspiration from the natural world, human experiences, and the interplay of light and shadow, aiming to evoke a profound emotional response in the viewer.
Each piece I create holds a narrative, weaving emotions, experiences, and meaning into its very fabric. Whether it’s a celebration of the human spirit—capturing resilience, passion, and connection—or a depiction of nature and its splendours—showcasing its vibrant beauty, tranquil moments, its wildlife, and untamed power—my art serves as a visual storybook. Through every stroke of color, texture, and form, I aim to inspire reflection, evoke emotions, and invite viewers into a shared journey of discovery and appreciation for the world around us.
Art, for me, is not merely a profession but a way of life. It is a means of connecting with others, exploring the depths of my soul, and contributing to the rich tapestry of human expression.
