Itzel Stroup Herrera

Itzel Stroup Herrera is a Mexican artist based in Oregon USA who brings a unique psychological perspective to the world of watercolor. A professional psychologist by trade, turned to art in 2024 as a transformative practice for emotional and mental well-being. This deeply personal origin story informs a portfolio that is as diverse as the human experience itself, ranging from lighthearted, whimsical illustrations to complex, meaningful compositions.
Entirely self-taught, Itzel Stroup Herrera has built a disciplined practice rooted in the fluid, often unpredictable nature of watercolor, while currently expanding into new materials and experimental mediums. Her work serves as a bridge between her Mexican heritage and her professional life, focusing on themes of joy, hope, and the quiet power of reflection. Today, Itzel continues to develop her voice as an emerging artist dedicated to sharing the healing potential of the creative process.
ARTIST’S STATEMENT
My artwork is an exploration of the duality between joy and reflection. Having started my painting journey in 2024 as a vital tool for mental health and soul-healing, I view the canvas as a space where psychology meets the physical world. My creative process is divided into two distinct intentions: I create 'joyful art' to reconnect with pure, uncomplicated enjoyment, and highly detailed watercolor pieces to convey deeper messages of hope and resilience.
Driven by a desire to provide others with the same sanctuary I found during my journey, my work invites the viewer into a moment of pause. Whether through a humorous piece or a meticulously layered art, my motivation is to spark a sense of reflection. As a self-taught artist, I aim for my art to be a source of light for those navigating their own journeys through life.
