Jane Dickson is a self-taught mixed media artist. She was born and raised in Southern Ontario but currently makes her home on the prairies of Alberta.

Her award-winning art has been exhibited in galleries and juried shows across the country. She has participated in Art Battle competitions, guided painting playshops, and been featured in ArtAscent Journal. Her work can be found in homes and offices throughout Canada and the United States.

ARTIST’S STATEMENT

As a child of the sixties, I loved to colour and draw. There were no television screens or computer monitors at our house, but I was blessed with pencils and crayons.

Eventually, I grew up, forgot about art, and immersed myself in the field of natural healing. Thankfully, in my late forties and much to my surprise, I discovered the life-changing practice of intuitive painting.

This method of painting without a plan allows my imagination to run wild, and appeals to my inquisitive nature. Creating an abstract background with acrylics, I watch as the hint of faces and figures begin to emerge on the canvas. Using a variety of media I develop the images and the painted story unfolds.

My intention is to not censor what shows up, but allow the work to be open to interpretation, and perhaps unlock portals to magical realms.
