ARTIST’S STATEMENT

As a child of the sixties, I loved to colour and draw. There were no television screens or computer monitors at our house, but I was blessed with pencils and crayons.

Eventually, I grew up, forgot about art, and immersed myself in the field of natural healing. Thankfully, in my late forties and much to my surprise, I discovered the life-changing practice of intuitive painting.

This method of painting without a plan allows my imagination to run wild, and appeals to my inquisitive nature. Creating an abstract background with acrylics, I can hardly wait to stand back and see what images begin to emerge. As the hint of faces and figures appear on the canvas, I use a variety of media to develop the piece and the painted story unfolds.

I have learned that creative expression is good medicine. It can be a source of joy, a meditation, and a spiritual practice. My paintings are open to interpretation; by not censoring what shows up, I hope my work can offer insight, provide food for thought, and unlock portals to magical realms.

May the wise soon rise
to rule the earth
in a heart-centered way
that we've known since birth
is our sovereign right
and the path of Source
so love can guide us
on our course

Arms: that's what they call the weapons that are used to take a life.
Put down THOSE arms!
YOUR arms are meant for healing and protecting or
for wrapping round the trees that echo the heartbeat of the earth.

How far have we come
in five hundred years
if we’re policing neighbours
because of our fears?

Reminds me of ‘witches’
who lived off the land
healing with herbals
they gathered by hand

I’ll leave it at that
my comparison made
if you value your freedom
don’t be easily swayed

Some people (including me) say that the forest is their temple, Nature their religion. When this piece was finished I loved how it spoke of the teachings that are available from the trees.
