Jared Neto
Jared is a self taught artist from Toronto, working primarily in oils. While he has been extremely interested in art his entire life he never felt he had the "talent" to do it himself. He started drawing and painting while in university, painting at the end of the night to relax just before bed, as he was working on his Engineering degree most other times. Today, Jared spends all of his free time thinking about or working on his art.
ARTIST’S STATEMENT
In my work, I try to capture my experience and memory of a subject, instead of a literal reproduction of it. I am interested in portraying unconventional or under-represented subject matter in the very traditional, norm-setting medium of oil painting. I am obsessed with abstracting real life and pulling out the small details, colors and textures that would go unnoticed at a glance.

16" x 20" Oil on Canvas, 2021
Painted based on a trip to Georgian Bay, I was struck by how blue the water and light was.

24x18"
18"x24" Oil on Canvas, 2021
Painted after a trip to High Park when access to the cherry blossoms was restricted due to COVID. On an artistic level I was fascinated by this dichotomy of these huge majestic blossoms against these relatively small, frail, people and gates.

12"x16", Oil on Canvas, 2021
I painted this piece as quickly as I could after coming back from a trip to High Park during cherry blossom season. I had a very specific image in my mind, and wanted to approach it accordingly. The thick application of paint and speed of painting was a breakthrough moment for me and has changed how I paint.
