Jennifer Arzt (b. 1977, Connecticut) is an American artist, filmmaker, and web designer based in California. She holds a BA in Art and Design from Iowa State University and MFA in Film, Television, and Recording Arts from Florida State University.

ARTIST’S STATEMENT

Hi there! I’m Jennifer Arzt, an artist located in the San Francisco Bay Area.

I make paintings with dynamic marks that convey movement, speed, and energy. I think of each one as a dance either carefully choreographed with slow and steady moves, or free-styled and turned up to 11.

No matter the scale, each piece is a narrative of a moment in time.

The results are abstract, calligraphic lines and marks that blend drawing and painting practices.

I want them to have an all-at-once feeling.

The physical act of painting is a huge part of my process. I want to be in motion when I’m showcasing motion. There’s a sense of excitement for me when the act of making mirrors the thing being made.

I’m always chasing that full-body YES feeling. It’s a cocktail of joy and possibility.

It’s the deep breath *and* the leap.
