Jennifer Lee Abrantes is an abstract artist based in Lorraine, Quebec. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Art Education from Concordia University. Her connection to art began in early childhood, with drawing serving as a constant presence in her daily life. By the age of fourteen, she had begun establishing her artistic identity, signing her work as “JLeeA,” a signature she continues to use in her professional practice today.

From an early age, Jennifer was drawn to the expressive possibilities of painting through thick, tactile layers, seeking to create work that invites viewers not only to see, but also to feel. This sensibility remains central to her practice, informing her exploration of texture, material, and surface. After several years pursuing professional endeavours outside the arts, she returned to painting full time in 2023, reconnecting with her artistic roots and embracing a renewed commitment to creative exploration.

Today, Jennifer’s practice is rooted in contemporary abstraction, with a focus on texture, dimension, and the expressive possibilities of acrylic and resin. Through continued experimentation with materials and techniques, she is developing a distinctive visual language that reflects her artistic vision and evolving approach to abstraction.

ARTIST’S STATEMENT

My practice is rooted in contemporary abstraction, exploring the relationship between material, emotion, and perception. Working primarily with acrylic paint and resin, I create compositions that explore the complexities of human experience through colour, movement, texture, and dimensionality.

Through layered surfaces, reflective elements, and the interplay of light, I explore themes of transformation, contrast, and the balance between chaos and harmony. Embracing experimentation and the expressive qualities of my materials, I allow each composition to evolve organically.

My work invites viewers to look beyond the surface, discover unexpected details, and connect with the emotions, imperfections, and experiences reflected within each piece.
