ARTIST’S STATEMENT

My art lives double lives. The first life is experimentation and play. When I paint, I have a conversation with my canvases, paints and brushes. Being an equal partner in the process, I let them speak and inspire me. For example, I paint using unconventional materials such as flowers and leaves as brushes. No two flowers or leaves have the same shape, and no two strokes render the same result. For the same reason, I love the fluidity and unpredictability of watercolours. I enjoy very much these organic conversations and the surprises they bring.
The second life is reflection and awareness. I paint with flowers and leaves to invite viewers to reflect on our relationship with our natural environment. How have we shaped nature and how has nature transformed us? I invite viewers to continue this organic conversation with my art.

"I'm at a crossroads. Which way should I go?" Life sometimes challenges us and makes us ponder on our past, present and future. In the meantime, it's also an opportunity to gain self knowledge and understand what's really important.

This artwork was painted with leaves as brushes, a way to invite viewers to reflect on our impact on nature. As I let the leaves pick up the pigments, it was also an equal and organic conversation that I had with my leaves. Again, an invitation to reflect on our relationship with nature.
