Julie Mercier is a self-taught acrylic artist tucked away in rural Spencerville, Ontario, where she happily traded pixels and code for paint splatters and bold colour. After years moving between graphic design, teaching, web development, and UI design, she followed her heart in 2018 and made painting her full-time creative pursuit.

Drawn to vibrant colour and loose, expressive brushwork, Mercier works primarily with portraits of people and animals. Her paintings aim to capture the spark—the personality, energy, and joy that make each subject feel alive and deeply individual.

With a BA, a Commercial Art diploma, and ongoing studies through local art schools, workshops, and international courses, she has developed a vivid, painterly style that is instantly recognizable. Her work has been featured in juried exhibitions and local shows, and is held in private collections across Canada, Germany, and the United States.

My work explores personality and emotional presence through vibrant colour and expressive brushwork. I’m drawn to moments of connection—those sparks of energy that make a subject feel alive.
