Kaye Freeman

Kaye Freeman is a multi-award-winning artist whose practice spans drawing, painting, performance, and short film. In 2024, she was awarded the Juror’s Prize at the Annual Brand Works on Paper at the Brand Library and Arts Center, curated by Los Angeles art critic Shana Nys Dambrot.
Born in Hong Kong and raised in Tokyo, Freeman is bilingual in Japanese and English. She received her formal art education in Australia on a scholarship after retiring from a career as a classically trained dancer. Following graduation, she worked as a set painter in the film industry while establishing her exhibition practice.

Since relocating to the United States, her work has been exhibited in galleries and museums across Los Angeles, Chicago, Berlin, the UK, Tokyo, Sydney, and Melbourne. Recent solo exhibitions include Drawings and Paintings from the Kali Yuga at Art Space 114, Transformers at Band of Vices, and Cosmic Origami at the Museum of Arts and Sciences. Her performance credits in Los Angeles include works at Highways Performance Space, the LA Art Show, Building Bridges Art Exchange, and The Hammer Museum.
She currently lives and works in downtown Los Angeles.

ARTIST’S STATEMENT

Inspiration for my art comes from a variety of sources, ranging from landscapes and cityscapes to humans and molecules. I enjoy adapting my work to suit specific themes while playing with composition and color.
