Keith Alan Spaar, Sr. is a South Jersey–based multidisciplinary artist, illustrator, and designer whose work ranges from fine art painting and printmaking to ceramics and visual storytelling. A graduate of the University of the Arts in Philadelphia with a BFA in Illustration, Spaar has spent decades developing a body of work rooted in atmosphere, craftsmanship, memory, and human connection.

His paintings often explore coastal life, wildlife, and quiet moments of reflection, blending realism with expressive color and luminous surfaces including gold, silver, and copper leaf. Alongside his fine art practice, he is also the creator of several independent creative brands spanning comics, design, and tabletop games.

Spaar is an Exhibiting Member of the Guild of Creative Art in Shrewsbury, New Jersey, and a member of the American Society of Marine Artists. His work is held in private collections and continues to evolve through painting, printmaking, ceramics, and narrative-based projects inspired by everyday life, heritage, and imagination.

ARTIST’S STATEMENT

I create artwork that invites people to slow down and feel something—whether it is the stillness of morning light on water, the quiet dignity of a historical moment, or the emotional pull of memory tied to an object, place, or landscape.

Much of my work is rooted in observation, but I am equally interested in atmosphere and presence. I want a painting to feel lived in rather than merely viewed. My subjects often come from the coastal world, American history, wildlife, family heirlooms, gardens, and the overlooked beauty of ordinary life.

I work across painting, printmaking, and ceramics, often combining traditional craftsmanship with expressive surfaces and layered textures. Metallic leaf, strong directional light, and rich color relationships frequently appear throughout my work, helping create a sense of depth, reverence, and emotional resonance.

At its core, my work is about connection—between people and place, memory and identity, past and present.
