Kennis Baptiste

As a New York City artist of African and Caribbean descent, visual artist Kennis Baptiste believe that art is one of nature’s creative languages. He believes that a higher power has been very generous to all of us, and that we are all brought into the world with unique gifts and the potential to master them. It’s up to us to find, except, and use those gifts on the path to wellness and happiness. It’s also important to this gift to define our individual purpose along with making it a benefit to others.

As a child, Kennis always felt the need to visually capture the beauty of things around him. This need continued as an adult, no matter how much he tried ran away from it. He started his artistic journey by studying and experimenting with traditional figurative paintings using oils, acrylic and mix media on canvas and paper. He later started to study and experiment with different ways of visually capturing beauty, movement, and energy. During this experimental period, he was able to find his own unique style of expression. His unique style of expression has evolved throughout the years with drawings, paintings, printmaking, and mixed media works. The complexity and the evolution of this work throughout the continue to maintain the uniqueness off his style of expression.

As his art form evolved, the quality of his drawings and paintings improved and his knowledge and interest in the fine arts also increased. Kennis is an Electrical Engineer by trade, and a visual artist by nature. The effluence of both worlds highly contributes to his level of creativity. He believes that inspiration can be found almost anywhere and being in New York City is a great source inspiration. Art motivates art, and the artist motivates each other. The influence of learning from other artists, working with local art originations, exhibiting, creating, experimenting, and sharing creative ideas with other creative people, continues to contribute and enhance his creative language.
