ARTIST’S STATEMENT

I believe in the power that form, color and texture can transmit up from the art and into the body of the viewer. While the formal genesis often comes from a photograph or drawing, my work relies heavily on music, momentum and mood to come to life. I translate this energy by laying on heavy amounts of textured paint and often by layering on canvas and other materials. This material approach accentuates the physicality of the media, providing a real-life grounding to contrast the wild, subjective emotionality of my work. All of this comes together to create a raw, fluid visual expression that is both static and alive, standing as a testament to the sentiment and sensation trapped within it.
