ARTIST’S STATEMENT

My artistic practice explores the multifaceted nature of Black and African identity through storytelling rooted in both personal experience and collective cultural memory. Working primarily in paint and pencil, and through portraiture, I create visual narratives that celebrate Black joy, challenge limiting stereotypes, and offer spaces of recognition and belonging for those who need to see themselves reflected.

Central to my work is the relationship between the human body and the natural world. I am inspired by the harmony between people and their environments, and I use this connection to examine themes of heritage, community, resilience, and everyday beauty.
Each piece becomes an act of remembrance, celebration, and reflection, encouraging audiences to engage with the nuanced realities that exist within our communities and within themselves.
