ARTIST’S STATEMENT
As both artist and instructor at TrueBlueLou Mosaic Studio in Caledon East, I have found the freedom to embrace a unique approach to creating mosaics. I practice the traditional technique of 'andamento', carefully placing rows of tesserae to establish visual flow, but as a contemporary artist, I relish breaking free from classical rules. The sheer joy of discovering new textures, colours, and possibilities of mixed media, fuels my passion for artistic expression.

There is so much history buried in this rose and it's colourful mix of vintage china. The grout lines (and pearls!) became vital to its’ formation and hint at a past, somewhat like the wrinkles in a beautiful old face. A collection of granny’s home crocheted doilies, provides the perfect background and represent a busy intricate life.

Technological advancements have dramatically altered man's connection to nature and to others, and physical connections are becoming abbreviated and giving way to electronic ones, isolating the individual.
This banquet of information at his fingertips although overwhelming and unsettling, is unstoppable and inevitable. The mannequin ‘Napoleon’ personifies this struggle between nature and human’s technology.

This table mannequin is wearing a glass and jewelled daisy bodice with a beautiful capped sleeve.
Highlighted by an original delicate pearl necklace, her bronzed skin glows under a pearl lite sky. Life on the horizon is captured by gold, more pearls and glass beads.

This sparkling mermaid is dressed in shells, repurposed jewelry, beads, and glass. The life size mannequin bust has been slightly altered in the back with epoxy clay to add dimension to her cape of 'jingle shells'. Custom 15" turntable included.
