Pedro Ortuno Chavez, better known as "Chvz" is an upcoming, Toronto-born artist whose work vividly encapsulates the richness of his upbringing navigating the scenes of his life. His passion for oil paintings offer intimate engagements with his audience, reflecting the environment, sets of beliefs and personal experiences that resonate while challenging many. A constant dialogue between what is, what can be, and how perspectives play everything.

ARTIST’S STATEMENT

Many take comfort in what most would call a safe space, a safe idea, but I am here to tell stories— with each painting telling a narrative of not just myself, but the things and those that has surrounded me. While fun, and pleasing, I want to challenging viewers to engage in deeper dialogues.

Through my work I seek to foster, and to add among the new generation of art and artists, through my storytelling, distinct uses of colour and brushstrokes and style. How art is, as a tool for conviction, for cultural expression, for community, and for truths

I strive to inspire and encourage people about art, championing the voices of smaller artists wherever I step. For as artists, we have been given the ability to create, and to preach to and for the voices of people, and I intend to do so.
