ARTIST’S STATEMENT

Anweiler's early interest was in critically investigating the cultural meanings underlying representation of gender, sexuality and the natural world as constructed through norms produced by education and scientific systems, which informed much of her earlier work. Her background in biology and education supported these various lines of inquiry. Over the last 20 years, the development of intuitive relationships with animals and other elements of the natural world, combined with early life experiences of both trauma and the mystical, has led to seeking new ways to explore the magical and the mysterious in both her artwork and her life.
