Ryleigh Hill

Ryleigh Hill is a Canadian artist who Grew up with three siblings, and her Parents in a small Albertan town surrounded by canola fields. Here, she enjoyed ice skating, and hanging out behind 7/11’s. Her love for nature, and swimming was nurtured on a rural farm in Ontario every summer. Thanks to those summers in Ontario, Hill is deeply inspired by the environment surrounding us. as well as our effect on our environment. From forests, to canola fields, Ryleigh’s work is inspired by constant transition. Finding both fear, and fascination in it. Her work aims to highlight how all change happens after another.
Hill is currently studying at Nova Scotia's collage of art and design (NSCAD). here she will graduate with an interdisciplinary degree in 2026. Her work has been exhibited in partnership with NSCAD on multiple occasions. this includes Sculpture, installation, and ceramics 'end of year' showcases throughout 2021-2023 at their port campus. Ryleigh has also exhibited with Bellerose composite High school's IB program in 2018, at the St. Albert Art gallery in Alberta.
ARTIST’S STATEMENT
Transition, Change, Flight, Repeativity, and Lumocity.
I started with simple tools, Old pens, Highlighters, and broken pencils. Art has always been something I can rely upon, a form of escapism, with absolute control. Nature was a rarity in my youth, I spent a lot of time in virtual spaces. I was often told I was off in ‘Ryleigh Land’. Today, my work intends to explore this world, and what it means to release control, and be more in touch with nature. I aim to make work that is flexible, and in constant transition. Much like nature, ourselves, and lives. Much like a living Biome, All must change for another, Silently, and constantly. often repetitive, but never exactly the same.
The way a crow flies, The reflection of light on water.
I am interested in telling these stories of Transitions with the intention to create connections between them, Nature, and ourselves.
Using abstractism, I hope to allow the viewer to curate their own stories, their own personal connections to the work. Much like we all do with our own changes. Each person's connections are different, and I aim to allow space for this in my work.
Much like constant transition, I work with many different mediums. From Acrylic painting, Watercolour, to textiles. Always with a heavy amount of colour, from Neon yellows to muted Blues. I use colour to emphasize how bright, and colourful our natural world is.
