Sarah Dobb

Sarah Jean Dobb is a fine artist working primarily in oil and charcoal. Her work exists between symbolism and surrealism, using metaphor-driven imagery to explore inner landscapes, emotional growth, and the quiet transformations that shape a life.

Rooted in storytelling, Dobb’s art reflects themes of becoming—moments of tension, tenderness, and reflection woven into dreamlike compositions. Rather than offering fixed narratives, her pieces invite viewers to also find their own meaning.

She studied Fine Arts in college, where her work received scholarships, exhibition opportunities, and the Most Promising Artist award.

Dobb continues to create work that blends realism with surreal elements, capturing experiences that are felt more than spoken.

ARTIST’S STATEMENT

My work is rooted in symbolism and surrealism, using oil and charcoal as primary mediums. While my experiences shape the work, I leave space for the viewer’s own engagement and reflection. I use symbolism as a way to explore ideas, emotions, and moments that feel meaningful, while leaving space for interpretation.

I’m drawn to creating images that sit between realism and imagination. Familiar forms are combined with symbolic elements.

My process is intentional yet flexible. I plan my pieces thoughtfully, while allowing them to evolve as I work. I’m drawn to charcoal for its depth and boldness, and to oil for the way it lets me work slowly, building and adjusting over time.

Ultimately, my practice is guided by curiosity, reflection, and an openness to change. I see my work as an ongoing exploration of life—one that continues to shift, expand, and develop over time.
