Serafym Mokriak

My name is Serafym Mokryak, and I am a photographer based in Calgary, Canada. Originally from Eastern Europe, I combine a technical background in construction and surveying with a strong interest in visual storytelling.

My photographic practice focuses on observing everyday urban life and discovering expressive moments within ordinary environments. Most of my work is created spontaneously while walking through the city, working, or traveling.

Through my images I explore the rhythm of the city, the interaction between people and architecture, and the influence of light, weather, and seasons on the atmosphere of a place. Many of my photographs are taken with a mobile phone, which allows me to capture moments naturally and work in a more intuitive way.

Today I continue developing my visual language through street and documentary photography, documenting the atmosphere and everyday life of Canadian cities.

ARTIST’S STATEMENT

My photography is about observing everyday life.

I am interested in simple moments that happen every day but often go unnoticed: light on buildings, people in motion, streets after snowfall, and small details of the urban environment.

Most of my photographs are created while moving through the city during daily life. I try to preserve the natural feeling of the moment and capture the atmosphere of a place as it exists in reality.

Living in Canada, especially in Calgary, has strongly influenced my work. The changing seasons, the rhythm of the city, and the diversity of people create a visual environment that I observe and document.

For me, photography is first of all the ability to notice.
