Shelley Blandford is an abstract oil and acrylic painter who lives in Edmonton Alberta. She grew up in Windsor Ontario and as a child was always drawing and painting. She also played the flute in the school band. It was a passion. She was either at the rink or practising her flute and making a lot of noise. She was a figure skater and after being in a show at 19, she then went on to coach for 30 years. When she was in her late 50’s the intense feeling that she needed to go back to her art was overwhelming. It was and is her purpose. Her work focuses on the exploration and experimentation with acrylic pouring and oils. In her work she accesses the tranquility of nature through expressive movement in which she aims to transcend the paintings material constraints and transport the view to a moment of stillness and peace.
