The artwork portrays a family adorned in traditional Korean attire residing in a hanok, a historical Korean dwelling. Amidst the timeless architecture, they welcome home a father whose presence is marked by Americanized clothing and modern objects—a stark juxtaposition that underscores the complexities of cultural adaptation and separation. The piece encapsulates the poignant reality of immigrant families in Canada, where prolonged periods of physical absence define the familial experience. Through evocative imagery and cultural symbolism, "Goose Dad" invites viewers to contemplate the emotional toll of transnational labor migration and the enduring resilience of familial bonds amidst cultural displacement to create pieces that highlight the beauty and bittersweet qualities of my dual identity and Korean history.
