I've been painting for over 35 years. Watercolour was my first love until I was introduced to oils in college at Ontario College of Art and Design University in Toronto in the early nineties. After Fine Arts studies, I became obsessed with glassblowing and took it up at Sheridan College's School of Craft and Design in Oakville Ontario. Well, that was it. I caught the glass bug! It's hard to think of anything else when it gets a hold of you! Today, I have found a happy balance between the two. I paint most of the time, and I book myself for glassblowing time at the Ottawa glassblowing co-op a couple of times a month. People have told me that they can recognize my glasswork based on my painting, and vice versa.

ARTIST’S STATEMENT

I'm a happy human making art to bring joy and curiosity into our lives. I take great inspiration from the gardens in my neighbourhood. The flowers blow my mind when they are at their peaks! This is what I enjoy painting the most, up close and personal flowers! I'm also feeling the need to challenge myself with something new, abstract painting. Boy! Oh boy! They're no joke! Painting good abstract paintings is turning out to be the most difficult thing I've ever worked on! Finding my voice, my style, my vocabulary it's all new and different. The thing with creating something completely new like this is that you have no point of reference, nothing that says, this is good or this is bad. It's all very subjective. The funny thing though, is that my painting comes out, the way it comes out. If you know what I mean. Just like all of us. I'm a work in progress. It's about the journey. Right? Join me on my ride and see where it takes us!

The last of the Blush Iris series and the most sophisticated of them all. With a more intricate image of the iris, this oil painting offers more depth and contrast in this dynamic composition.

The second Blush Iris painting is a tighter, close-up composition. Strong dynamic shapes highlight the luminescence of the iris. A floral painting without being flowery.

Oil on canvas.

36x36"

The first of a small series of blush-coloured irises I painted in oil paint, based on a cluster of them that I spotted in my neighbourhood last spring.
The square format of the canvas creates a captive composition with the contrasting curvy lines of the iris. This piece would bring a sensual elegance to any room.
