ARTIST’S STATEMENT
The Focus Series emerged from my fascination with bokeh photography and the way a lens transforms light into softened collections of color. I began my practice painting landscapes
rooted in Impressionism, observing atmosphere, light, and moments in nature.
Over time, I felt compelled to challenge that representational approach by shifting my landscapes toward abstraction.
In this body of work, I reinterpret the landscape through an out-of-focus point of view. Rather than rendering detailed forms, I separate nature’s “color swatches” fragments of atmosphere,
light, and movement, and reconstruct them through layered circular compositions inspired by bokeh. The overlapping circles mimic the softened points of light created by a camera lens,
dissolving solid forms into rhythm, vibration, and multicolored interplay.
Using acrylic open paints and matte medium, I intentionally disrupt opacity and saturation. This manipulation allows transparency and diffusion to reflect the visual softness that inspires the series. The surface becomes both controlled and fluid, structured yet atmospheric balancing my foundation in Impressionism with a more abstract visual language.
