Unibelle (Tiffany) is a poet and self taught painter from Boston, MA. As the daughter of a Cape Verdean immigrant and an Italian father in a polarized community, she often felt like an outcast when others attempted to place her in tight boxes and generic spaces. Likewise, she was frequently ostracized by family and classmates, and felt great shame in her dialect, body, hair, and complexion. While a poet since childhood, as an emerging visual artist she now also enjoys creating modern expression pieces that depict her past and current journey with issues of racism, body image, love, self-esteem, and mental health. Through her art, she aims to regain the power she and so many lost due to their internal struggles with self-love and self-confidence often exacerbated by the external realities of racism, classism, and sexism coupled with the facade of normalcy. Unibelle loves using bright colors to depict the vibrancy of life and shades of gray to show its complexities and nuances. She frequently combines her love of written expression either directly in her pieces or as poem captions to convey her deeper message.
